We have now reached to 12 Watts LED from an 100 Watts Bulb in the field of lighting. But in the field of fans, we have not seen any revolution yet. But now we are seeing some companies are coming with their fans that can dropped the power consumption of the fans up-to 70%.They called this the BLDC fans. In this article, we will be discussing over this technology.

What is BLDC motor? BLDC is a abbreviation of Brushless DC Motor. Most of the people buy fans, does not know about the motor of the fans. In the market a normal fan has the induction motor inside with a capacitor for starting purposes. The BLDC name itself confuses that it works on DC Supply?? The answer is no. These fan works with AC supply.


BLDC Motors has permanent magnet rotor inside and windings on the stator slots. Generally there are 12 slots in the stator windings. Now after the construction of stator windings and permanent magnet motors, the whole construction is added to a driver circuitry. The driver circuitry is the main part of this fan, it has the SMPS (Power Supply) which converts AC Supply to 24V or 12V DC supply. This DC supply is given to the microcontroller which gives the command to the stator windings at regular intervals, so that it rotates in clockwise motion.

These motors uses less windings than a normal fan motor so these BLDC fans are light weighted. Because of less windings and operation is mainly done by electronic microcontroller, the losses in the BLDC fans are much lesser than a normal fans. So in BLDC fans the power consumption is very much less than the ordinary fans.
